June 20, 2008

“This is very critical funding,” Dr Kelly said. “It is necessary to give volunteer firefighters quick access to remote areas when fires break out. The work ensures the firefighters’ effectiveness and their safety which is paramount.”

Dr Kelly said maintenance included work on the Southern Nadgee Strategic Trail and other fire break construction near Bega, rebuilding a bridge on the Belowra East Fire Trail, the Mogila, Careys, Chalkhills, Link and Constitution fire trails near Wyndham and work on the West and South Boundaries of the Pericoe Plantation and Yambulla State Forest.

Other fire trail maintenance was being funded in the Palerang Shire near Bungendore and Braidwood, in Eurobodalla Shire near Moruya and Bodalla, in the Snowy River Shire near Bombala and near Cabramurra in Tumut Shire.
