Sydney Hobart Yacht Race - Leaders pass Green Cape Overnight

Sydney Hobart Yacht Race leaders Pass Sapphire Coast overnight

Seventeen and a half hours into the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2007 the five leading yachts have passed Green Cape and begun the crossing of Bass Strait into a south easterly breeze of around 10 knots.

The remaining fleet is scattered between Batemans Bay and Eden.

A south easterly wind of around 10 knots has met the leaders, near Green Cape and slowed them to speeds around 10 to 15 knots from yesterday’s good speeds of 16 to 22 knots.

Leading in contention for line honours are:

1 - Wild Oats XI - 79nm SE of Gabo Island
2 - City Index Leopard - 82nm SE of Gabo Island
3 - Skandia - 55nm SE of Gabo Island
4 - Ichi Ban - 87nm E of Green Cape
5 - Rosebud - 61nm E of Green Cape

Limit, Krakatoa, Swan Song and Pretty Fly II are hugging the shore and there’s a chance they may be visible with binoculars from the headlands along the Sapphire Coast around Bermagui, Tathra, Merimbula, Pambula and Eden.
