Hall fees rise to combat vandalism

August 16, 2007: Vandalism attacks at Tanja Hall have resulted in Council reassessing its bond structure for the hire of the venue.

The Tanja Hall Committee has requested the bond be set at $1000 for parties, a rise of $800, while for community events the bond would remain at $200.

Council’s Corporate and Community Services Director Leanne Barnes said the hall committee had raised concerns about damage caused at private parties.

“Unfortunately at some occasions in the past when the hall has been hired for parties there has been vandalism to the hall and the surrounding area,” Ms Barnes said.

“In an effort to minimise the cost of vandalism the committee wishes to implement a new bond category for parties and this has been supported by the Council.

“It is unfortunate that it has come to this, but a small few have created this situation. As a community hall, it should be left in good condition for all to use.”

The new changes will be advertised and open for public comment. If there are no objections the new bond fee will become part of Council’s fees and charges.
