Community Benefits from Mumbulla Grants

It is a partnership that has been forged over many years and its successes have been felt throughout the Bega Valley community.

This is an annual donation made to the Mumbulla Foundation by Bega Valley Shire Council and it was a proud Mayor Tony Allen who presented the $30,000 cheque to Foundation chair Phil McDonald recently.

“Every year there is an increasingly greater demand being placed on Council’s very limited resources and this funding is directed at projects and initiatives that help address priority needs in the Bega Valley community,” Cr Allen said.

From Council’s contribution, $5,000 will be spent on administration and other support, while the remaining $25,000 will be matched dollar for dollar by the Foundation, effectively doubling the amount of money distributed in the form of community grants.

Grants of up to $,5,000 are available each year to non-profit community groups to improve social and economic opportunities in the Bega Valley Shire – many of which have been identified as part of the shire’s social plan.

Mr McDonald said Council’s continued contribution would make a real difference to the lives of Bega Valley Shire residents.

“As a tax-deductible trust, the Mumbulla Foundation is able to receive donations and distribute them back to the community.  It can also assist organisations that are applying for funds from other trusts and foundations.

“The grants for this funding round have gone to a wide range of organisations across the shire from a Men’s Shed project in Merimbula to a neighbour aid project in Bega and a youth mentoring project in Eden.  In total, 24 projects were funded more than $50 000. “

The grant functions will be held at::

Bega: Monday, December 7, at 4pm in the Bega Valley Regional Art Gallery

Pambula Beach: Tuesday, December 8, at 4pm in the Lumen Christi College Library, Pambula.
