Ministerial Approval Granted for Combining Bega’s Public Schools

The Member for Bega Andrew Constance has recognised the enormous effort of the Bega West and Bega Public School communities to finalise arrangements with the NSW Government to redevelop the Bega Public School site.

Following a meeting involving the Minister for Education Verity Firth, the Member for Bega Andrew Constance, School P&C Presidents and both Principals the Minister granted approval for the $6 million redevelopment of the current Bega Public school site.

“To secure NSW Government support following the community consultation that occurred earlier this year will be welcomed news for many seeking to improve the state of educational facilities available to Bega primary school students,” Mr Constance said

“I am pleased that the Minister has signed off on the redevelopment with the first stage of construction utilising the Commonwealth Government’s “Building the Education Revolution” funding while the second stage of the redevelopment is to be funded by the State Government to the tune of $2 million,” Mr Constance said.

“A new look school should be completed for commencement of the school year in 2012,” he said

“An enormous amount of work has gone into this issue by both school principals Mrs Alana Lockerbie at Bega West and Mr Troy Mott from Bega Public along with the school P&C’s who formed a steering committee.

“This is not an easy issue and one in which there has been much to consider.

“With the soon to be built bypass a decision had to be made and I would urge anyone with any ongoing concerns to please contact me or the school principals.

“The allocation of $6 million to this development will provide for an enormous improvement to the state of facilities for the students and staff alike,” Mr Constance said.
