A public meeting to discuss issues raised in a risk assessment of the Tathra and Merimbula Wharves will be held next week.
The meeting will be held at the Tathra Wharf restaurant on Monday, December 7, from 6pm to 8pm.
Bega Valley Shire Council commissioned a Coastal Risk Assessment and Treatment Plan for the two wharves from Surf Lifesaving Australia after last year’s tragic accident at Tathra Wharf that claimed the lives of Shane O’Neill and his sons, Riley and Travis.
Mayor Cr Tony Allen said the report had made a number of recommendations and these had been considered by key stake holders, including the police, emergency services, the surf lifesaving clubs and Council staff.
“The public meeting at Tathra Wharf Restaurant next Monday will discuss those proposals and devise a program of work to be carried out by Council and by the Land and Property Management Authority (formerly the Department of Lands) as the owner of the assets,” Cr Allen said.
He extended an invitation to users of the wharves at Tathra and Merimbula and to any groups or individuals with an interest in the safety issue to attend the meeting.
