Council Supports Small Business Program

The Bega Valley Shire Council is supporting a business advisory service for start-up and established businesses.

The Far South Coast Business Advisory Service is available free to local business operators as part of a scheme funded by the NSW Government.

The Service provides assistance, seminars and workshops and networking opportunities for business owners and managers to plan their growth and development.

Business development manager with the Illawarra Business Advisory Service, Lynnette Kearney, will travel to the Bega Valley Shire on a monthly basis.

“If you are thinking of starting your own small business or you are currently in business and want to talk about your growth plans, you call our 1300 number to make an appointment for a confidential business advisory session,” she said.

Her first visit to the Shire will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2009.

“I am looking at setting up small business clubs in the area,” Ms Kearney said.

“They have been very successful in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra and I would like to give the same opportunities to businesses in the Bega Valley Shire.

“The clubs have been a great networking opportunity and provide specialist speakers on business growth subjects.

“Knowing the other small businesses in your area is an important factor in the success of your business,” she said

Council's corporate planner, Adrian Weedon welcomed the opportunity to work with the Illawarra Business Advisory Service to support local businesses.

He urges business operators to take advantage of this free service by calling Ms Kearney on 1300 166 694 to arrange a confidential appointment.

“Council can make meeting rooms available for Lynette in various parts of the Shire to make the service as accessible as possible to local businesses,” he said.

“I am also happy provide more information on this service and other ways Council can assist with statistics and demographic data."
