Bega Valley Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from organisations and community groups to organise an International Women’s Day event in the Shire in 2010.
Council’s community development officer, Emma Benton, said International Women's Day would be held on March 8, 2010.
“This is a day to celebrate the gains women have made over the years; to bring our attention to the issues that women still face; and to celebrate women's contribution to making Australia and the Bega Valley Shire a better place for everyone,” she said.
The theme for IWD 2010 is “Empowering Women to End Poverty by 2015”.
“The NSW Office for Women has provided a grant of $1,000 to Council for the event and we are calling for one-page expressions of interest from community organisations to work with Council to run an event for IWD,” Ms Benton said.
Expressions of interest should describe the event, the audience and give an outline of the anticipated budget.
The proposed event and organisation must meet the funding guidelines and the organisation must have its own public liability insurance.
The closing date for expressions of interest is January 18, 2010.
For more information about the guidelines or to discuss potential events phone Emma Benton on 6499 2157.
