New grants to fund community sport

The State Government has announced opening dates for community grants programs for sport and recreation projects across NSW.

Bega Valley Shire Council is working with the Department of Sport and Recreation to hold an information seminar to assist sporting organisations to develop projects and to understand the new grant process.

Sport and Recreation Minister Kevin Greene said the new programs had been revamped to better target the projects that most needed help and to reduce back office administration costs.

The new grants are focused squarely on sport development and athlete support, general participation and the development of quality sporting facilities. The new grant programs focus on three key areas:

*  Community involvement in recreation and sport;
*  Sport development and athlete pathways;
*  Sport and recreation facilities development.

Applications for the community involvement in recreation and sport and sport development and athlete pathways opened on November 11, and the Sport and Recreation Facilities Program applications will open in December.

Guidelines, sample application forms and information about the online application process for the new funding programs are available on the website, www.communities.nsw.gov.au

People interested in attending the seminar do not need to register and can just turn up on the night: to the Sapphire room in Club Sapphire Merimbula (formerly Merimbula Imlay Bowling Club), on Tuesday, December 1, from 6pm to 7pm.

For more information about the grants or seminar phone Eric Brooks or Michelle Clarke on 13 13 02 or 6928 4300.
