Sapphire Coast Weather Patterns
With the varied types of country in the region known as the Sapphire Coast, which is in fact the Bega Valley Shire, it’s to be expected that there will be large variation in the weather and weather patterns throughout the area.

The coastal towns, villages and rural areas are known for their general freedom from the intense frosts experienced in Bega and the inland villages.

The coast is also spared the intense heat of a scorching summer day, experiencing sea breezes from the cooler ocean environment.

Then there are the higher areas of the Sapphire Coast. Several mountains are high enough to attract light snow falls in extreme conditions. On occasions snow falls to 500 metres, which is more than half way down Brown Mountain, the main route to the Monaro. Other of the Sapphire Coast’s mountain roads are sometimes cut by snow.

Bega experiences an average summer time 9.00am temperature of 20°C and drops to an average of 6°C in mid winter.

Bega’s 3.00pm temperatures average 25°C in summer and 15°C in winter.

The coastal towns of Bermagui, Tathra, Merimbula, Pambula and Eden enjoy a climate suited to the growing tourist industry.
