The Member for Eden-Monaro, Dr Mike Kelly, has called for people to nominate an outstanding senior citizen who makes a positive difference to the local community to become the 2009 Senior Australian of the Year.
Time running out to nominate exceptional locals for the 2009 Senior Australian of the Year. Will the 2009 Senior Australian of the Year be a resident of Eden-Monaro?

Mike Kelly, Member for Eden-Monaro
Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Dr Mike Kelly said: “As I go around the electorate I have met many exceptional Senior Australians who work tirelessly to make our communities a better place to live.
“These are the real heroes of our community and I believe that their great work should be recognised.
“Nominees need to be aged 60 years and over – people who have made outstanding contributions to Eden-Monaro and to the nation.
“Get involved. Showcase Eden-Monaro and celebrate the achievements of our older Australians.
“More than 800 nominations were received nationally for last year’s award. It’s time a senior in Eden-Monaro won this award.
“We all know seniors in our towns that deserve this award – people who inspire us, shape and enrich our community and make us proud as a nation.
“The Senior Australian of the Year Award is a chance to acknowledge their work and achievements, and through them the work and lives of all senior Australians.
“Your last chance to nominate them will be on 31 August 2008,” said Dr Kelly.
Judging will take place during September and October - with state and territory finalists announced at individual functions in November. The Senior Australian of the Year will be announced at a national presentation to be held in Canberra on the eve of Australia Day, 2009.
Nomination forms are available at your local Commonwealth Bank branch, Holiday Inn and National Seniors Association, or nominate online at www.australianoftheyear.org.au and follow the links.
