“A total of $1.5 million has been set aside for community relations activities, which for the first time includes $100,000 specifically to assist community organisations to deliver smaller scale projects,” Dr Kelly said.
“This new arrangement provides amounts of up to $5,000 for activities such as community events, forums and information sessions. In addition funding of between $5,000 and $50,000 will be available for major projects lasting up to 12 months.”
Dr Kelly said the funding was announced late last month by the Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Services Laurie Ferguson.
Applications are open to incorporated, not-for-profit organisations. Groups such as school communities, non-profit foundations, service clubs, sporting bodies, ethnic communities, youth organisations, local government authorities, universities and colleges of education are invited to submit proposals.
Applications must be lodged with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship by 6pm Eastern Standard Time on May 23, 2008. Further information is available on www.harmony.gov.au or the community relations hotline 1800 782 002.
