Don’t forget grants for water and energy efficiency says Kelly
July 23, 2008
The Member for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly has urged schools in the electorate not to forget that they can now apply for grants to install water and energy efficiency appliances.

Mike Kelly, Member for Eden-Monaro
Dr Kelly said up to $50,000 per school for all our schools in Eden-Monaro became available for this purpose from the beginning of July. The money can be used for:
- solar power systems
- rainwater tanks
- small wind turbines
- small hydro power generators
- solar hot water systems
- energy efficient lighting
- ceiling fans
- door and window draught seals
- ceiling, wall and floor insulation
- sensors, timers and thermostats
- automatic door closers and automatic sliding doors
- external window fittings
- skylights
- shade awnings, and
- smart meters and displays.
“The National Solar Schools Program provides schools with an exciting opportunity to save energy, money and water,” Dr Kelly said.
“Schools can also set an invaluable example for their students and the wider community by providing hands-on experience of the simple steps we can all take to do our bit for the environment and help tackle climate change.
“I would encourage schools in Eden-Monaro to visit the Federal Environment Department’s website to learn more about the program, look at what might work best for their circumstances and the enormous opportunities available through the program.
“This support will compliment the great work being done by the Clean Energy for Eternity team and help us to achieve the 50/50 by 2020 goal for Eden-Monaro.”
