Woolworths Negotiations Continue
October 19, 2007: Bega Valley Shire Council has authorised General Manager Graeme Faulkner to continue contract negotiations with Woolworths to redevelop Zingel Place, Bega.
Deputy Mayor Janette Neilson said today’s extraordinary meeting supported a recommendation for Mr Faulkner to reach an agreement in writing with Woolworths for the sale of land in Zingel Place pending a suitable price.
“This will enable a deed of agreement to be finalised for consideration of execution by Council and Woolworths, subject to the premium figure for Zingel Place as determined by Council and being accepted by Woolworths,” Cr Neilson said.
“It means negotiations can continue, however they will remain confidential because of the commercial nature of the business transaction.
“Council is optimistic that Woolworths will be keen to continue negotiations and we can look forward to taking the next step in establishing Bega as the regional commercial centre of the shire.”
Council has also delegated its powers of determination of any development application arising from the proposal by Woolworths to an “appropriate person”.
“Such a person could be a retired Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court, and Mr Faulkner has been given authorisation to make that appointment,” Cr Neilson said.
