Council’s community development officer, Emma Benton, says that if you have time to contribute to the Youth Council over the next 12 months then you should nominate as a youth councillor for 2008-09 period.
Nominations close next Monday, June 2, and the committee will serve from July 1, 2008 .to June 30, 2009.
Last week the Youth Council held a successful day of bare foot bowls and a barbecue at the Bega Bowling Club which gave interested young people the opportunity to find out more about the group.
“There are still places available on the 11 member Youth Council and it is hoped to fill them with people from diverse backgrounds and stages of life and localities to ensure that the Youth Council represents a cross section of the young people in the Bega Valley Shire,” Ms Benson said.
“Youth Council members will not only be identifying and addressing youth community issues, but will also develop a whole new range of skills and have the opportunity to be involved in various youth Initiatives and forums.”
Nominations will be accepted via email, in person or by post until the close of business on Monday, June 2, 2008.
Application forms are available in person from Bega Valley Shire Council offices, on the council website, www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au or by phoning 6499 2317.
Anyone aged between 15 and 25 years who would like more information about the Youth Council or the nomination process should phone Emma Benton on 6499 2317or email ebenton@begavalley.nsw.gov.au
